The Role Of The Wedding Photography Helper In Professional Wedding Photography

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Paul Gooch Wedding photographers often employ wedding photography helpers to help them at weddings but what are the advantages and disadvantages of this? Some of the disadvantages may be: (1) the photographer will have to pay her, and this will reduce his or her own income from the wedding (2) he will have to get along with her, there could be personality clashes (3) she may not have enough work to do. This is because wedding photography helpers mostly help the photographer take formal photographs, but many modern wedding photographers only take a few formal photographs, the others are often photojournalism wedding photography photographs, or `candid’ photographs. To counteract these disadvantages (1) the wedding photographer helper can help the photographer make money. By arranging people quickly and efficiently she speeds up the process of taking the formal photographs. This gives the photographer more time to take more photographs, and more photographs often produce more income (2) Personality clashes can be avoided if the photographer selects the `right’ helper, someone that he can relate to and who understands what is required. One way to ensure this is to meet the helper first, get to know her, try to find out if she is the kind of person that can handle the stress of wedding photography. (3) She may also be useful after the formal photographs have been taken, she can also help the photographer take the photojournalism wedding photography pictures. If it’s a large wedding, with plenty of opportunities for these kind of photos, she might act as his `scout.’ While he is taking one photojournalism wedding photography picture, she can be looking out for the next one.To summarise, a good wedding photography helper is a great asset to the wedding photographer. Planning a Flower Border

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Teri B Clark The Location Flower borders are similar to flower gardens, but they are typically not as spacious. Flower borders are typically seen in front of a fence, along the shrubbery, or in front of a building. It is even possible to put a flower border along the front edge of medium sized annuals or perennials. Flower borders are not a specific size. They can be as small as 2 feet wide. In larger spaces, they may be up to 8 feet wide. Tip: If you have a really wide border, you may want to include stepping stones as part of the pattern. This will help you work among your flowers without packing down the soil. The Shape Once you determine where you would like to place a flower border, you will need to create the space. Many people mistakenly create straight edges and put their border flowers all in a row. Although this would work for a formal garden, it will feel too stern for most any other location. Gentle curves work well. A good way to create a pretty border shape is to lay out your garden hose and follow the path it takes. The Flowers The most logical way to choose plants is: Hardiness and light Blooming season Size Color With hardiness and light, you will need to be sure to pick plants that are in your hardiness zone. You will also need to determine the amount of sun your border receives. Next you will want to consider the blooming season. For annuals, this is usually not a problem since they bloom from early spring to late fall. However, if you are planting perennials, you will want to add those that bloom at different times to create color all season long. When mixing annuals and perennials, you will want to consider how the border will look both when the perennials are simply green plants and when they are in bloom. When you are thinking about choosing your flowers, you will also want to think about their size. Their adult size will help you determine how far apart to space your plants. This is very important because space between plants is essential and many gardeners crowd their plants too much. Here are some good spacing rules: Tall, spired-type flowers should be spaced about 1/4 as far apart as their mature height. Tall bushy plants should be spaced about 1/2 as far apart as their mature height. Rounded, bushy annuals and perennials should be spaced about as far apart as their mature height. Creeping, groundcover-type plants may be spaced about twice as far apart as their mature height. And now we get to color. You get to be quite creative here. Borders can be different tones of the same color. They can also be made of related colors. Or for those that have a bit more enthusiasm, a border can be made with an assortment of hues!If you are choosing to go wild, you will want to remember the following: Light tones placed near dark ones, or contrasting palest tones with the most intense are a good way to mix colors. White flowers and gray foliage help separate conflicting colors. Dont be too worried, however, because planting a flower is not like creating a cement foundation! Flowers can be easily moved and transplanted. So, if you create a border and do not care for the look, simply rearrange until you do! Teri B. Discover Some of the Best Wilderness Trout and Bass Fishing Just One Hour West of Toronto, Ontario

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Garth Pottruff Just one hour from Toronto we experienced guided platform raft fishing on the Grand River in Paris. The river offers abundant small mouth bass, fall/spring rainbow trout as well as pike, walleye and big carp. The platform fishing was excellent. Two fishermen could easily fly fish for bass or trout with lots of space. For those that bait cast, there were deck chairs elevated above the water allowing easy vision of striking fish. The speed of the raft allowed many casting opportunities. At each pool and swift there was lots of time to hit every spot with numerous casts. In April to mid-May rainbow trout or steelhead are abundant in the river as the river gets warmer these fish head for Lake Erie but return in September, offering lots of action. There was also excellent fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout in the pristine cold waters of Whitemans Creek, which joins the Grand River. In July/August the small mouth bass dominate the Paris section of the Grand River. Locals expressed no surprise at catching 40 bass in several hours at the beginning of the bass season. Pike and pickerel were present in this section of the Grand River, but minor in comparison to the trout and bass. The nearby Nith River offers much better pike and pickerel fishing opportunities. People that are traveling in the area and in need of tackle can simply rent from the Big Catch fishing shop in Paris for twenty dollars per day. If looking for accommodations, the countryside setting of the River Ridge Bed & Breakfasts caters to fishermen. It offers excellent accommodations and breakfast… but it is the soothing outdoor hot tub for the tired fisherman that appeases most! Part of the Grand River in this area has been zoned Exceptional Waters to preserve the fish populations against heavy fishing pressure. This barb-less, bait-less, catch & release zone contains some very healthy fish populations. The biggest surprise was soaking in a wilderness fishing experience so near to the city of Toronto. The platform raft fishing offers some of the best fishing on the Grand in Southern Ontario. Definitely a great river for a days fishing! Garth Pottruff is from a farm background in the Grand River Valley near Paris. He was a trained forester in the Thunder Bay/Ottawa area of Ontario. In the 80’s he resigned from his forestry career to return to the farms in the Grand River Valley. His goal was to give his four sons the opportunity to experience the rural lifestyle which was disappearing. He has since spent 20 years in management… and now works with his son Chad’s outdoor adventure business called the Grand River Rafting Company. This venture is right down Garth’s alley because this outdoor company specializes in guided learning adventures. For Garth, teaching is a natural gift he loves making the Grand Valley come alive for others. You will discover that his passion is very contagious… and it’s hard to walk away without wanting more. Marketing Tricks or Treats

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Charlie Cook If you live in the U.S., at the end of October you’ll be preparing for a stream of young children to come to your door on Halloween. One by one or in groups of friends, they’ll ring the bell and shout, “Trick or Treat”. To avoid having them actually play a trick on us, you bribe these youngsters with a selection of mini candy bars. You could offer them healthy treats like apples or small boxes of raisins or you could try something novel like telling them a favorite joke, but most young children are on a mission. They want to fill their plastic pumpkins and pillowcases with candy as quickly as possible. You may not be a fan of sugar-based diets, but if you enjoy seeing all those undersized fairy godmothers and ghosts and goblins on Halloween, you’ll indulge them and dole out one candy bar after another. Your costumed customers know what they want. If they don’t get it from you, they’ll go next door. This Halloween strategy can also help you grow your business. Want to get a steady stream of customers coming to your door? Want to avoid having potential clients go next door? Offer them a free treat! It works to get children ringing doorbells and talking to adults whom they barely know, and it will work for your business. What kind of treats will bring in your prospects? Probably not Snickers Bars or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, delicious as these are. The answer depends on what you sell and what your prospects want. For example, if your prospects wantto: - Improve their finances - offer them a free guide or a workshop on ways to make more and save more money. - Sell their home - give them a guide to maximizing their profits. - Increase their physical mobility and avoid pain - give them tips on ways to improve their posture and strength. - Get better results with their advertising - give them a guide to writing ads that get a better response. If you know what your prospects want, you can pull them in like kids at Halloween with the right treat, free report or workshop. Using this strategy on the Internet, you can attract hundreds of qualified prospects each month to your business. Over twenty thousand people currently subscribe to my weekly marketing newsletter. Each of them signed up in response to my offer of a free marketing guide. And this free marketing guide continues to attract over a thousand new subscribers each month. Marketing Tricks to Avoid Some companies think that tricking people into trying their services or products is a clever way to attract customers. phone companies and credit card companies offer low introductory rates that are subject to steep increases a few months later. Some small businesses make wild promises that their services and products dont live up to. No one likes to have tricks played on him or her at Halloween or any other time. Strong s.ales depend on trust. Violate trust and good will with marketing gimmickry, and you’ve lost your prospect for good - and probably several of the friends they tell about you as well. Marketing Treats to Use Offer prospects a treat to get them to contact you, to stay in touch, to visit your showroom and to thank them for making a purchase. Not sure what to give away to prompt prospects to contact you and visit your store? In the 1930s, Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota built a reputation and their business by giving away a glass of ice water. Before cars were air-conditioned, the promise of a cold glass of water was enough to pull a steady stream of hot and thirsty travelers off the highway and into the store. Today people are hungry for information and ideas that will solve their daily problems and simplify their lives. A Stamford, Connecticut financial firm used a series of free workshops for wealthy investors to pull in prospects and quickly added millions under management. Make your free offer something your prospects won’t want to turn down, whether it’s a report, article, workshop, or educational CD. It doesn’t have to be big but it does need to target the interests of your market and be related to your products and services. With the right freebie, the right treat, you’ll attract prospects by the thousands and see your sales skyrocket. 2005 In Mind Communications, LLC. Suet Bird Feeders

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By Pam Caouette Suet bird feeders are a great way to feed birds all year long. Despite what some may think that suet bird feeders are only suitable in the winter months suet bird feeders are a valuable source of food for wild birds all year long. Suet bird feeders allow for wild birds to have suet, a very nutritious form of bird seed, in the fall and winter when it is cold and wild birds need more fat and protein to keep warm as well as in the spring and summer when birds are nesting and raising their young. Suet is one of the best forms of bird food for young birds. Suet bird feeders are wire bird feeders. Suet bird feeders are also a form of hanging bird feeders and can be hung from trees or a bird feeder pole. You can also buy suet bird feeders that are window bird feeders that easily mount to your window so you can watch birds from inside your home easily. Suet bird feeders are designed for suet cakes. Some suet bird feeders are designed for suet ball, and you can even get these suet ball feeders that can hold more than one suet ball. This leaves for little worry to refill your suet bird feeder. Suet cakes are the bird seed with animal fat that has been process so that it will not spoil or get soft and melt when it is warm. Suet bird feeders attract many different types of birds, some of the most common birds attracted to a suet bird feeder are: woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees. You may also see cardinals and blue jays at your suet bird feeder! Suet bird feeders are a great way to help nourish the wild birds in your area during all the months. And suet bird feeders can be hung in a variety of locations to suit your bird watching needs. Pam Caouette is the lead author for http://www.aplusbirdfeeders.com. American Family Foundation

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

By Kadence Buchanan Among the dozens of different groups that have sprouted over the years clamoring for various family-related issues, the American Family Foundation (AFA) has to be one of the most highly-visible and controversial of the lot. The groups has come a long way since being established as a wholly conservative, Christian non-profit organization in 1977 by Rev. Donald Wildmon. At that time, the group was known as the National Federation for Decency and it was based in Tupelo, Mississippi. One of the areas where the AFA is visible is through the articles that it publishes regularly promoting traditional nuclear family values and the main tenets of Christianity. The group is known for its strong support for Christian missionaries and its intense hatred and opposition against abortion, homosexuality and pornography. They are also known for their role in promoting “clean entertainment” and for preaching the values of thrift and railing against excessive debt. As an activist group, the AFA is one of the best-organized in the country, especially when it comes to launching boycotts and letter writing campaigns that promote traditional values that they hold dear. Among the more prominent boycotts that the group has undertaken are those against fashion company Abercrombie & Fitch (on the grounds that it uses “softcore pornography in company catalogs”), film distributor Movie Gallery (which it refers to as a “distributor of pornographic videos”), convenience store chain Kmart (for its role in the “Sale of adult-rated music CDs”) and athletic brand Nike (for “promoting a back door move to legalize homosexual marriage”). Its track record of activism also includes major boycotts against popular TV shows, movies and businesses that it perceived to be promoting indecency. They have also set out on crusades against some well known and highly regarded consumer brands such as Crest, Volkswagen, Tide, Clorox, Pampers, MTV, Burger King, the Carl’s Jr., Kraft Foods, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Old Navy, NutriSystem, and American Airlines. There is no cause that is too small for the AFA. In fact, in 2004, the AFA launched an attack against the cartoon film Shark Tale on the grounds that the animated flick was brainwashing children into accepting gay rights. Phobias: What are They?

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Ian Bracwegirdle What is a phobia?Forgive me if I seem to go around the house a bit but all will come clear to you as you follow along. For you, if you are the sufferer, it is a compelling fear. A real gut wrenching feeling “I have got to get away!” instinct. In the situation where the fear happens it can feel unbearable. For example A friend of mine, a teacher, was walking along Blackpool Promenade. It was a beautiful sunny day. To her left people were enjoying the beach, playing games, swimming in the sea and sunning themselves. Hundreds of other people were walking along the promenade coming and going as people do on their holidays. The parallel road was busy with slow moving traffic and the old Blackpool trams rattled by. A brilliant holiday day was being enjoyed by thousands. BUT! Lets call my friend Jane, not here real name, but she wishes to remain anonymous. Jane was walking with her two daughters aged 3 and 5 years, each holding a hand. They were relaxed and looking forward to playing on the beach and ice-cream and other treats. Even so in that crowd the girls were holding tight to mums hands as they experienced the sea of legs. Suddenly everything change! Jane let go of the girls hands, turned and fled in the opposite direction. Fear had struck right through Jane’s whole caring, motherly nature. What horror could have sparked this loving mother to behave in such a rash and seemingly uncaring manner? Lets just look a bit further down that crowded promenade. Coming towards Jane was a photographer with a camera around his neck. Like many other seaside photographers he had a live prop to stimulate his trade and get people to pose for pictures. Around his neck was draped a large python. Can you feel what spooked Jane? Yes. She had seen the python, done what I call “The 400 simultaneous horror movies” and fled, leaving two little girls to their fate. Her fear of snakes was so great as to override all her mothering, caring and loving nature. If you are reading this and don’t suffer from such fears you could well be thinking; “Silly woman why didn’t she just turn around and walk the other way?” Or you may be of the hard school and think; “Stupid woman why can’t she keep herself under control?” For a second place yourself in Jane’s place. What would cause you as a parent to override your basic protective nature towards your offspring? Think about it…… it would really have to be something very powerful. We instinctively protect our children but this mother abandons her two young daughters in the middle of a crowded holiday resort and runs away because of a snake. She leaves them facing her worse fear, an eight foot long python. If you have a phobia you will understand what is going on. If not, you could well be very puzzled and maybe even disturbed by this true story. What is happening? This is a step through of the event:-Jane sees snakepanic mode is set in motion her flight / fight mechanism is set in motionadrenaline flooded through her blood streamfear overrides all logical thoughtsTwo options are available run or fightshe is too frightened to fighther only option is to runshe legs it as fast as possible At this moment the only thing that matters is her survival she is scared of dying. Her only option is survival as she has stopped thinking logically. All this happens in a split second. In Jane’s mind there are no options, fear overrules all thoughts of protecting her two vulnerable daughters. Once Jane has calmed down away from the threat she is able to rationalise her fear. She will probably feel shame and guilty about her actions. Yet in her mind she would react the same in a similar situation. She knows that her fear is still there waiting to be triggered again. Why does Jane react this way? Hundreds of people around Jane that day walked past that same snake, some even had it draped around their necks and had a photograph taken. Why is Jane the only person who reacts this way. I am sure that some people would have had lesser reactions but most could cope with their minor fear of snakes. Only Jane appears to have had this overriding panic. Ian Bracegirdle is a teacher, course leader and therapist. How You Rate Women Determines The Quality of Women That You Are Able To Attract

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba Some guys ruin their chances of being able to pick up women before they even open their mouth. Whenever I hear a man say that a woman is super hot or that he would rate her either a 9 or 10, I know that he has ruined his chances of success. Even if he somehow manages to talk to her he has already put her on a pedestal that NOT only will she recognize but his actions or should I say inactions will keep him from building attraction inside of her. If you have to use a rating system you will increase your chances of success at being able to pick up women if you drop it down to a scale of 1-3. 1 being unattractive 2 being indifferent 3 being attractive From there you need to make an effort to talk to all the 2’s and 3’s since realistically these are the women that you would most likely date. Now, I know it may seem as if dating a 10 would be the greatest thing on earth. It is easy to imagine yourself “showing” her off to your friends and doing all sorts of fun things with her like she was a trophy or something. Yet, the truth is any man who believes he is dating a 10 is more than likely going to put up with a whole lot more drama and B.S. than any sane man should put up with. Also most of the time what you think is a 10 other people might find to be a 6 or 7; in addition there is no such thing as a 10 with morning breath, no makeup and sleep in her eyes. For those of you who decide to convert to the 3 point system you will begin to find yourself looking for qualities in a woman that are much more important than looks. If you really think about it for a moment all that should matter in a woman’s looks is can you have sex with her or not; if the answer is yes then you can qualify her on other levels to determine if she is the one for you. Where are the Best Places to Get Married?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Shari Hearn Destination weddings seems to be the buzzword now when it comes to wedding planning. It seems everyone wants to leave their familiar surroundings and jet off to some great destination to get married. There are, of course, plusses to leaving your own backyard and getting married elsewhere. For one thing, you get to visit some new location and begin your honeymoon shortly after the ceremony. And, if the ceremony consists of just the two of you, or perhaps a very small group of family or friends, that can reduce the pressure of planning a big wedding back home, not to mention, cut down on costs. But, you still have to decide where to go. And, to some, that is pressure in itself. They feel they have to choose the best place to get married. After all, there are no backsies. Unless you plan on having a renewal of vows sometime in the future, theres only one wedding. Deciding on the best place to get married depends on many factors, such as your budget, time constraints, and the timing of your wedding. For example, the best place to get married in the fall might not be the best place to get married in the summer. Phoenix, Arizona is a good example. Unless youre someone like me who simple adores hot weather, you might want to skip Phoenix as a wedding destination in the summer. But, for all other seasons, Phoenix is a great destination to get married. The seasons are really a very important factor in choosing the best location. Not only do you have to contend with winter, spring, summer and autumn, but you have to consider hurricane, fire and tornado, which definitely have seasons. The western U.S. is currently experiencing one of the worst wildfire seasons in recent history. Definitely not good if youre planning on holding your destination wedding in resorts or towns in forest lands. Make sure you are aware of the hurricane, fire and tornado seasons and how they might affect your wedding plans. If youre planning a wedding in autumn, one of the best choices would be the New England states, where you can wed amid the backdrop of spectacular fall colors. You also have the added benefit of historical inns where you and your partner can have a ceremony and begin your honeymoon. If youre planning a summer wedding, you cant go wrong with a beach wedding. The great thing about beach weddings is you can have a perfect beach wedding to fit any budget. If youve got the bucks you can stay at the fanciest beach resort in Hawaii and have a spectacular wedding fit for a queen. But, if youre on a tight budget, you can obtain a permit, hire an officiant, and have a small affair at any number of Southern California beaches. The good news is, for next to nothing youll still have a million dollar view. Once caveat about Southern California beach weddings. Southern California has what is called June gloom, and it is as the name implies. Usually in late May and early June the marine layer sticks around and prevents the sun from shining. Youd never know it was summer. So, if youre planning a wedding in Southern California, best to make it late June or later to avoid the June gloom effect. Some people want glitz with their weddings. They want to get married amid sights and sounds that pummel them from every direction. Sounds like Las Vegas, doesnt it? If you want to tie the knot, then go wild, Vegas is probably one of the best places for you to get married. You have gambling, Vegas shows, and great restaurants. A Las Vegas wedding is also a great place to go if you wish to bring along some friends and family. The endless supply of entertainment will provide your guests with something to do once the ceremony is over. If the idea of a Las Vegas wedding horrifies you, and youd rather get married amid a more tranquil, spiritual environment, then Sedona, Arizona or Mount Shasta in California would be the best spots for you. Certainly you can find a shaman or two in either of those areas who would bless your union while standing near your favorite vortex. Perhaps youre the sort who would still shudder at a Las Vegas wedding, think vortexes are silly, but would still like to be married in the great outdoors, next to some of the most spectacular forest land America has to offer. Your best choice might be the Great Smoky Mountains outside Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As a matter of fact, Gatlinburg has been called the wedding capital of the South. The truth is the best wedding destination is whats best for you. And sometimes when you search for the best location, you may also find that its right in your own backyard.
