Food Journals: A Quick and Easy Solution for Weight Loss and Better Nutrition

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Jennifer Wetmore One tried and true method for producing weight loss is keeping a food journal. Multiple studies have shown that people who keep track of what they eat lose more weight and are more likely to keep it off permanently. There are several reasons why this works. First, and foremost, you become accountable for what you put in your mouth. Think of it as a scorecard of your performance. We have all heard the expression, “numbers dont lie.” When golfers hit the links with a scorecard, they tend to be infinitely more truthful about their game. Keeping a truthful record of your daily food intake provides you with an undeniable scorecard of your performance. Second, it is virtually impossible for most people to keep a mental tally of everything they eat in a day including calorie values. An old Chinese proverb states, “The palest ink is stronger than the strongest mind.” Take advantage of the power of the pen and write it down as soon as you eat it and keep a running tally. You will be less likely to overeat and consume more calories than you can burn. Third, it can assist you in finding your trouble spots. Look for trends in your performance. Are you likely to eat more at night? On the weekend? When you are with certain people? Remember, a problem well-defined is 95% solved. If you do not know where you are having trouble, you cant pinpoint the problem or fix it. Consistency is the key. Try recording everything you eat for 30 days. For the most effective results, do not skip any days. Make sure to record everything you eat in accurate amounts. You may find that you need to measure foods at first to get a good idea of your portion sizes. Your food journal can be as simple or as complex as you wish. You may choose to track only your calorie intake or the number of servings of fruits and vegetables you consume. Or you may be inclined to keep track of the times you eat and, if necessary, with whom you are eating. You might also choose to record the grams of fat, cholesterol or carbohydrates consumed along with fiber content. There are many books and resources available to help you find out the nutritional content of any food. This technique will only take a few minutes out of your day. Ideally, you will see the results on your scale and how your clothes fit within a few days. At the very least you will have valuable information about your dietary habits, with which you can take action and produce the changes you desire. copyright 2006 Jennifer D. Wetmore, DPT Jennifer D. Aromatherapy Candles

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Kent Pinkerton Aromatherapy candles are candles that are scented and lit to create a feeling of calm inside the user. Candles are said to enhance mood and emotions, and so are aromas. Wise men and women thought to combine the two in what came to be known as aromatherapy candles. Available among many different types of candles, aromatherapy candles stand a cut above the rest. A painstaking effort goes into making aromatherapy candles and the prices match both elegance and efficacy of the aromatherapy candle that you buy. Good quality aromatherapy candles are made of high quality wax with pure essential oil added. Wax and the aroma used define the price tag the candle displays. Good manufacturers use natural waxes like palm, beeswax and soy for an exquisitely cleaner flame. Petroleum based wax, which is an artificial wax, is a poor substitute and makes for an inferior aromatherapy candle. To give the candles an alluring charm, manufacturers use colors by adding fine flower petals or herbs. They also add pressed flowers to the wax and then mold candles out of the wax and flower combination. Different candles are given different fragrances by adding essential oils, depending on the customers choice and popular buying trends. A recent trend has been to make gel candles, but since they cant hold fragrances, doubts persist on their commercial and practical viability. A candle is named based on the purpose it serves. For example, you can purchase a relaxing candle, a lavender candle, a celebration candle, a patchouli candle and an energizing mint candle. Aromatherapy provides detailed information on Aromatherapy, Aromatherapy Oil, Aromatherapy Candles, Aromatherapy Diffusers and more. Aromatherapy is affiliated with Acupuncture Schools. How To Make Origami

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Peter Vermeeren The art of paper folding has been a part of many cultures for a very long time, but it is the story of a little Japanese girl named Sadako that really brought origami into the publics eye. The story of this dying girl and her quest to fold 1000 paper cranes in order to receive her hearts desire, as per the Japanese legend, has been transfigured into many books and movies. The paper crane has become the most widely known symbol for origami and has motivated many people not only to learn about this beautiful art form, but also to learn how to make origami. This article offers some tips on how anyone can started making origami, and for those who already have some knowledge, how to further your origami skills. The word origami comes from the Japanese words oru (to fold) and kami (paper), and although not all styles of paper folding originated in Japan, they are now all united under this title. Origami is defined as the creation of art through various folds and crease patterns. There are a few basic folds that are used repeatedly in most patterns, and it is essential to learn these basic folds in order to learn how to make origami. The models are created from square sheets of paper that are sold in various different colors and sizes. It is also possible to find foil-backed origami paper, two-toned origami paper, and patterned origami paper. The objects created through origami range from the simple, such as paper hats, to the extremely intricate, such as models of famous buildings or animals in motion. If youre looking to learn how to make origami, then the best place to start is at your local library or bookstore. There are many books available that range from very basic for those who are just starting, to advanced, for those looking to expand their knowledge and skill in this art-form. These books are offered both according to your level and according to various themes. It is possible to find books containing animals, toys, holiday themed models, or even a mixture to satisfy any origami craving you may have. These books feature step-by-step instructions, and usually include diagrams, so that anyone should feel confident enough should they choose to learn how to make origami. The internet is also a great source for tips on how to make origami. There are thousands of patterns online, as well as forums where you can ask questions and get answers from other origami aficionados around the world. Keep in mind that origami is complicated, so its natural to have questions or struggle with some of the patterns. If the diagrams and the forums arent enough to help you learn its also possible to find someone in your area who is knowledgeable about origami, or to find a class. There are many people around the world who are considered to be origami professionals, and these professionals are a great help in learning how to make origami. Robert J. Lang, who resides in Alamo, California, is one such origami professional. In fact, he has been a full-time origami artist for thirty years now, and he is considered to be one of the worlds foremost authorities on origami. He has written many books and created many models, as well as helped to put forward theories of technical origami. Technical origami is a more complicated form of origami which works from a pattern of creases to create more complex models that appear more life-like than the traditional origami patterns. Although this may seem complex, it is definitely something to work towards after having learned the basics of how to make origami, and learning from someone like Robert, who does origami full time, might be just the thing to jump-start your appreciation for this art form, as well as your skill as an origami artist. How To Nullify Poison Oak At Home

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Javier Fuller Nature is mostly kind to humans. But at times there are exceptions. Some of the natural products and the natural surroundings bother you at the most unsuspected times, in the most unexpected manner! Take for instance, when you take a stroll over a sumac, you walk into these patches of poison oak with lots of expectation and wonderful, happy feelings. But soon you may realize that these little plants are allergens to you. You would rush out of this grove, all confused. You would wish to secure instantaneous relief from the plant-induced itchy suffering. But to fight this mild cruelty of nature, you need not go to a drug store or your family doctor. Reach your kitchen and look out for the oatmeal container. Nature produces certain master strokes and oatmeal is one of them. Be ready for the oatmeal bath. Cut a piece of nylon hosiery. At one end, tie a knot and loop it over the bathtub. It should be done in such a way that hot water flows through the piece of hosiery. Take the bath slowly and steadily. There is another way of doing it, if you don’t like the bath procedure. Take a bowl and put hot water into it. Keep the oatmeal-filled hosiery into it for 15 minutes. Squeeze the bag many times and let the fluid escape as much as possible. When throught with it, take a cotton wad and apply it gently to the affected part of the skin. You will find relief as the healing process begins immediately. Another method to treat the skin inflammation caused due to the touch of poison oak or poison ivy is to wash the area with a good soap and water. Rinse it and do it repeatedly, at least three times. Most of the poison will be washed away. You can also use alcohol in the same manner. Even rinsing the skin with water for a number of times will get you lots of relief. The Jewelweed plant (touch-me-not plant) is another useful home remedy. Crust its leaves and stems and make a paste. Wash the affected area with cold clean water. Apply the paste gently all over the area. This is the time when your body requires the skin rejuvenating Vitamin C. Eat fruits and drink lots of milk. Understand this poison oak is not a disease. It is just one of those happenings! Destination Wedding Planning

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Shari Hearn So, youre beginning to plan your wedding. Exciting, isnt it? First you have to pick the venue for your ceremony. Luckily you chose one that wont break the bank. Next theres the venue for the reception. Uh-oh, the banks starting to bulge around the seams. Thats okay; everything will be fine as long as you keep the guest list down. Hopefully Aunt Gladys branch of the family wont mind if theyre not Oh, they do mind. And so does your cousins ex-girlfriends brother and his family. And your boss and her husband and three kids. Pretty soon your dental hygienist is perturbed that shes not invited. Dont look now, but your wedding budgets going to explode. Its about this time you wish you could just skip the wedding and go straight to the honeymoon on some tranquil island somewhere. Right? Hmmaybe you can. Its called eloping. Or, in some circles, a destination wedding with just the two of you. It seems more and more people are foregoing the traditional big wedding for a smaller affair in some exciting destination with just the bride and groom, or perhaps a small number of close family members. And, why not. With the high price of wedding planning these days, a destination wedding or eloping just makes sense. Of course, just because youve opted for eloping or a small destination wedding doesnt mean you can throw your wedding planning checklist away. Its just a smaller checklist. Lets review what might be on your destination wedding planning checklist: 1. Choosing a Destination This is the fun part. You have many fun choices before you. You can get married: In a hot-air balloon over Colorado. At Disneyland. On a beach in Southern California with just you, your partner, the wedding officiant, and a million dollar view thats costing you nothing. On a roller coaster in New Jersey. While snorkeling in Maui. Overlooking Niagara Falls. While bungee jumping in Las Vegas. At a historic inn in Vermont. While planning the location for your destination wedding or elopement, do keep in mind the time of year youll be getting married. You can keep the costs down considerably if you go during the off-season of the chosen location. 2. Make the Travel Plans Making your travel plan far ahead of time will also cut down on costs. Also, be creative when considering the mode of travel. Maybe you could travel by train instead of by plane. A train can add some more romance to your wedding plans. 3. The Legal Issues You need to check on the laws governing marriage in your chosen location. If youre a U.S. citizen and you plan on getting married in another country, for example, be sure to research what documentation you might need. There might also be a longer waiting period from getting your marriage license to actually marrying. Also, make sure you have your passport up to date. 4. The Wedding Officiant 5. The Photographer 6. Cake and Champagne Whatever location you choose, be it a New England inn or bungee jumping in Las Vegas, you will probably find a company which will provide the wedding officiant, photographer and cake and champagne, as well as limousine transportation to the ceremony site. Be sure to ask if theyre included in your package. If not, make sure you have them all lined up before your ceremony. An elopement or destination wedding can be good for your budget and your stress level. And, if your Aunt Gladys is mad because shes not invited, bring her back something from Maui. That should keep her happy. Shari Hearn is a writer and creator of Destination Wedding and Ski Vacation websites. A Piece of the Puzzle

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Terry Coyier Being bipolar is a royal pain in the butt, no doubt about it. But, when I was first diagnosed it was actually a relief to me. Finally there was an answer. The answer meant I was crazy, but it made perfect sense. It explained away so many things. I had a reason for why I lashed out at people and why I was suspicious of everyones intentions towards me and why I could be so joyful one minute and so glum the next. Then to find out that I could take some pills and feel better, I was nearly beside myself with the glorious expectations. Couple that with some therapy and I would be normal. Well, I was consumed with being bipolar. I read everything I could get my hands on. I enlisted family and friends to act as my support group and to serve as my guinea pigs. Everything I learned I tested out on one of them. Did this example fit my behavior? Did I act this way or that way? What about such and such? I monitored my moods, my dreams, my meds, my cycles, my side effects, my habits, others habits, how many times I let the dog out okay not that one, my triggers, my warning signs, even my chocolate intake! I was finally monitored out! But I was bipolar and that was something. So, I was doing just fine and decided to switch meds (with the approval of my pdoc) because I had somehow gone from a size 7 to a size 14! Big mistake. Just inside of 6 weeks I landed in the ICU for a 4-day visit and then another 5 days in the psychiatric hospital. This was a great hospital though (with the exception of one grouchy nurse who thought she was a doctor). I was well taken care of, it was clean, the group therapy was actually productive and I got back on the right meds again. I had outpatient therapy for about two weeks after I was released from the hospital. The therapy there was wonderful as well. I learned the proper responses to difficult situations. I learned I wasnt the meanest person in Texas (there was another guy there who took my spot!). I learned how to fight fair and express my feelings. Most important, I learned how to give up control. Now, control is a big issue for me. I dont like to be in situations that I dont have control. Its not an ego related problem, its an I dont have control over my feelings, so I will control everything else problem. It took me a long time to get to this point. I had been reading self-help books for half my life (13 years) and thought I had some idea of how things worked. Ha! I was still pretty clueless. But, now I was finally getting somewhere. Unfortunately it was at a snails pace. Control isnt relinquished at the drop of a hat. Especially a triple Aries with a type A personality! This is one obstinate ram here, and with red hair and green eyes, I am as pigheaded as they come. Very slowly I came around. Im not completely there yet, but Im still relentless in my quest. Terry J. Coyier is a 37-year-old college student studying for an Associates of Applied Sciences degree. She is also a freelance writer who writes about bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. Terry was diagnosed with bipolar ten years ago. She lives with her son in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Energy Enhancement The Shiva Lingam Meditation And The Trinity the Antahkarana, and Connection

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

By Swami Satchidanand The Shiva Lingham and Yoni come from the India and the Ancient, 5000 years old Hindu religion. It is a meditation, inscribed in Stone which is at the heart of every Hindu temple. It is a meditation inscribed in stone whose meaning has been lost in history but which is now taught in Energy Enhancement. The Shiva Lingham and Yoni is a 5000 year old sculpture, a diagram, a key which describes the natural flow of energy between man and the energies of the universe. How energy comes from heaven, the Spring at the top of the mountain, the Center of the Universe, through a human being, a purified human being with no energy blockages, illuminated, enlightened, and down into the Kundalini chakra in the center of the earth. There, in the chakra in the center of the earth, the negative energies are transmuted and healed and importantly, the direction of the energy is changed, rectified, and then travels up through the human being again from the center of the earth and up into heaven. This is the Macrocosmic orbit of Alchemical Taoism and also the Kundalini Kriyas. The base of the Shiva Lingam, the Yoni, looks like the Sufi Alhambra Fountain fountain in Granada, Andalusia, Spain where the center represents the center of the earth. These two sculptures from two completely different countries and cultures separated by thousands of years and miles show how these universal principles are again and again brought into the cultural mix of humanity for their evolution. The Shiva Lingam (Male Genitals) takes the part of the upwelling water of the fountain and represents the Antahkarana. In ritual worship, milk is poured over the Shiva Lingam representing the descent of energy from the Center of the universe into the center of the Earth. It comes out of the Yoni (Female Genitals) which symbolise the earth and the antahkarana through the yoni spout shooting spiritual energy out of the center of the earth like the water of the fountain comes out of the Alhambra fountain into the pool through the Antahkarana channel and up into heaven, the pool, the ocean of bliss This represents the change in direction of the energy which occurs in the center of the earth and shoots the energy back from earth to heaven. This is the Taoist Macrocosmic orbit, a guided meditation which has so many benefits and which is taught in Energy Enhancement. The secrets of Energy Enhancement on the nature of the energy flows of the universe and humanity come from deep and ancient sources. The parallel processor model of a human being. Super Computers gain speed through the number of processors connected. Each Chakra is a processor gaining more intelligence the higher they go. As more processors are connected, so a human being gains more wisdom. The communication bus connecting the chakras together in a man, and with the energies of the earth and the universe itself is the Antahkarana. As my Master Roshi Hogen says “The spring at the top of the Mountain.” is heaven. All energy comes from this. It is the chakra in the center of the universe whose energy powers everything. Illness is caused by a lack of energy. We can only heal ourselves when we learn to fill ourselves with energy by these methods of getting rid of the blockages to this energy flow, the energy blockages in you! Energy is a glow. Energy is beauty. Energy is health. Energy is happiness. Energy is concentration and memory and your ability to respond. Learn practical methods to access these Infinite Energies. Gain Energy! This Initiation is the most important Initiation of Energy Enhancement. Other Initiations teach us about the Negativities and attitudes which stop this highly Energetic Soul Connection. Other Initiations teach us how to use this Higher energy in the correct way. In this Initiation we learn Methods of Accessing the Infinite Energy of the Higher Mind. Easy and practical meditations based upon Ancient Methodology of 200,000 years duration whose track record of success is greater than any other system! By accessing this energy we get in touch with our Intuition, our Direction, our Soul Path. Put Everything In Its Proper Place. Feeling the orgasmic Higher Energies from the Connection to chakras above our heads makes us understand that everything else in our lives is good… but not that good!! “Connect, Only Connect”, Said Goethe. What Options are Available in Household Storage?

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Lee Dobbins Today more and more people are looking household storage ideas in order to provide that all important extra space in your home then hopefully the ideas below may give you some ideas on how this can be achieved. Garage Storage All garage storage cabinets need to be strong and durable to withstand the years of heavy use that they will be put under and for that reason alone either stainless steel or wood have been the preferred materials. But today there are other alternatives that can be used instead. In recent years the modular resin storage cabinet has become a popular garage accessory as they are low maintenance, strong and durable at a very reasonable price. These types of cabinets normally sell for less than $100 and if you purchase them as part of a larger storage system that are stackable. Attic Storage You may consider a storage cabinet for the attic to be unnecessary but think about how much dust accumulates over time in this area and the possible damage it may be doing to your prized possessions. The use of storage pods or storage cabinets in this area is both inexpensive and a highly useful form of attic storage. All storage pods and cabinets are waterproof, fire resistant and they can be attached to the rafters in the attic and there are ones which have a washable filter which reduces the amount of dust contamination that will affect the products inside. Home Storage Cabinets The problem with the more traditional storage cabinets to be found in the home is that they are often bulky and unattractive. But today more and more cabinet manufacturers are producing designs which offer cabinets that are both taller and thinner. One of the biggest challenges that we face in our homes is the use of unused space to help reduce clutter. Many corners of homes have become the latest place for decorative storage units to be placed and you could either have a corner curio cabinet or open book shelves to use for household storage. If floor space is limited in your home then why not think about using wall hanging storage units instead or just install a single shelf in an open wall space either above a window or above home furnishings. So as you see the types of household storage products is varied and finding the right one for you just needs a little bit of imagination. Non-Surgical Procedures Grow in Popularity, Complacency

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Sara Goldstein Non-invasive, non-surgical procedures are becoming increasingly popular across the country as a way to provide both men and women with a refreshed new appearance. Some of the most common non-surgical procedures, including those performed by the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center are: BOTOX Chemical Peels Collagen Injections Microdermabrasion Restylane Sclero Therapy Thermage The growing popularity of these procedures is also leading to an increasing number of people having the procedures performed by non-professionals, in non-medical settings. Just because a procedure is non-surgical, does not mean it is non-medical. When having any of these procedures performed, the setting should be sanitary, with sterile equipment, and supervised by a qualified physician or a certified practitioner who is trained to perform the procedure. Also, your medical history should be carefully reviewed prior to the procedure. If for some reason there is an allergic reaction to any of the chemicals used, a medical professional should handle the emergency. Also, simply because the procedure is non-surgical, does not meant that there is less down time or follow-up care. A medical professional should handle all parts of the procedure to ensure that you get the best possible results. Unfortunately, parties or group procedures can also produce unforeseen consequences. By having your procedure performed in an appropriate facility by appropriately trained staff or doctors, you will be much more satisfied with your results. If you have questions about any of our non-surgical procedures or other cosmetic surgery procedures, contact our office to schedule an initial consultation. Dr. Serota will discuss with you about the results you would like to see and prescribe the treatment that is best suited for the results you want. http://www.serotamd.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sara_Goldstein http://EzineArticles.com/?Non-Surgical-Procedures-Grow-in-Popularity,-Complacency&id=286172 buy phentermine with cod purchase phentermine cod phentermine foreign pharmacy phentermine diet pills no prescription
