Look Before Leaping into Remarriage

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Shirley Ann Parker Remarriage is always a highly emotional and sensitive scenario. This is true whether one or both of the engaged couple is previously widowed or divorced. However, divorce carries with it the additional fear that past mistakes will be repeated, or past abuse will be inflicted again. In one way, this kind of fear is actually well grounded, because people tend to marry the same kind of person the next time around. Something about the individuals personality is attractive. On the other hand, just as we wouldnt say that all white dogs are deaf, we shouldnt think that all introverts are frugal with money, or all happy-go-lucky people are irresponsible (just to give completely arbitrary examples). It follows that, since we cant generalize, marrying the same kind of person the second or third time, might just work out. Or not, of course. The game of love is anything but predictable, and has no guarantees. The biggest obstacles to happiness in remarriage are often the children from previous marriages or liaisons. Young children can greatly fear or resent having a new parent in the picture. Often this is expressed openly, making for volatile get-togethers. Additionally, the parent may secretly worry that her boyfriend, now becoming the stepfather to her child, will actually molest the girl. Successfully blended, loving families have worked very hard to get along in their new relationships with each other. Yet The Brady Bunch is pretty much a myth in todays society. For one thing, the questions of respect and discipline have to be resolved upfront, so that abuse does not happen, from any quarter. Frequently, the biological parent dumps that responsibility on the new spouse, instead of sharing the load. Older children can be equally resentful of a remarriage. They often see every prospective stepparent as a person who will take their rightful inheritance away from them. While it may come as a shock, the truth is that no one has the moral right to anything their parents have worked hard to obtain, or have received as a windfall. Assuming the parents are not suffering from dementia at the time, it is their decision to leave something for each child in their Will, or to write a lazy, disrespectful, spiteful, or gold-digging child out of the same document. Another major obstacle to achieving success in a second marriage is the spouse who constantly compares the second wife or husband to the first. It is unkind and selfish to do that. The road leads to divorce again, or to long lasting strain that will undermine any solidarity that might have been reached without such verbal, and often sexual, abuse. Five years of hearing a husband complain that his ex was much better in bed will, at best, get a husband nothing but icy treatment in return. It generally takes far less than six months for a second wife to figure out why her husbands first marriage failed or actually ended in disaster. Look before you leap is sound advice in any situation, but especially when remarriage is on the horizon. 2006 Shirley Ann Parker Shirley Ann Parker is the author of Discoveries: A Journey Through Life, an engaging collection of short stories about the joys and frustrations of family life and friendships. How to Help A Relationship Develop

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Alisa Chagnon Some men go through three main phases before entering into a serious relationship. The first phase is infatuation, this being the time when the man is enthralled at the idea of finding a woman and is in a state of bliss at the prospect of spending time together. The second phase involves his thought process in which he is deciding whether he is truly ready for a serious relationship. This phase can prove to be most perplexing and misinterpreted if a woman does not understand the complexity of this phase. If a woman can understand phase two, she can then take steps, allowing the relationship to transgress naturally into phase three. Phase three, of course, is a strong, solid and committed relationship. When the thrill of meeting someone new is dwindling and it appears that it is time to take a step in the direction of a more serious relationship, some men panic. Although they may desire a secure, safe and loving relationship, at some point a man can begin to display puzzling behavior.. If a woman is in a relationship and the man is in this phase, it is extremely important to be aware of the warning signs and then learn what can be done to aid in his comfort of accepting a serious, committed relationship. In phase two, a man is weighing his options. He is questioning his ability to hold his end in a relationship, his capability of keeping a woman happy, and his desire or lack thereof for a committed relationship. A man requires some space while he is deciding and if not given this, he can easily be scared off. If a woman is yearning to move forward, it is important to take measures so the man does not feel suffocated. A man will appear to be backing off a bit and a woman can misinterpret this incorrectly, causing more problems. The main sign that a man is in this phase is rather clear. He is keeping more distance in the relationship. He may call you several hours late. He may not be at his home when he said he would be. He may be vague when questioned. Arguments may result as a woman is feeling rejected and the man is feeling pressured.. The most common mistake that a woman may make is asking a man too many questions. When a man appears to be backing away, if he does not talk as much as before and does not want to spend as much time together, a woman will begin to question him. The majority of women assume that he has become uninterested or that he is perhaps seeing another woman. The woman will then begin to question the mans every move. When persistently questioned, a man may take a defensive position. While it is understood that a woman has a natural curiosity to know what her partner is doing, if she barrages him with questions, it does nothing to remedy the situation. The man will feel there are too many demands on him and it will in turn increase his fear of commitment. Take for example; if the man does not arrive immediately home from work, he is perhaps one or two hours late. The woman will begin to ask questions, such as , Where were you?, Why didnt you call me?, and What exactly were you doing? While in his state of needing space, the man will inevitably begin to resent the questioning and may not answer honestly. He will feel that the woman is overbearing and overpowering him with a barrage of questions. When inundated with questions, the man may then keep adding on false statements in a way to deflect his feeling that the woman is controlling. In many cases, this will lead to an argument. The man is upset that he of being questioned; the woman is upset that the man is not answering as she wishes. This can be avoided, if a woman realizes that if she asks a man a question that he does not wish to answer, asking again will not produce any satisfactory results. If a man chooses to keep some space, no amount of questioning will force him to answer as a woman desires. If a woman requests the man to have a perfectly logical and satisfactory answer, she may question him repeatedly attempting to make the man give what she perceives as the correct answer. He never will. If he is feeling pressured, and wishes to hide some of his activities, he will do it. A woman should realize that she cannot change a man and his decision to enter into a serious relationship is one he must make on his own. A woman should not be inquisitive about a mans every move. If the woman uses sound judgment and only asks important, relevant questions, she can help defuse the mans feeling of pressure. Once the man feels he has freedom, he will feel free to choose to enter into a relationship. A man will most probably not enter into a relationship with a woman that he perceives will be continuously questioning his every move and appearing to force a relationship. It is not suggested that a woman ought to remain in a situation in which she is receiving mistreatment. A man should show caring, kindness and compassion. If the man is displaying quality signs of an excellent companion and the woman simply gives him some freedom, the result may be a fantastic committed relationship. Free Ringtones For Your Cell Phone? You Better Read the Fine Print

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kurt_Howard]Kurt Howard With the high demand for ringtones these days there are many companies and websites offering free ringtones. Many people blindly go to these offers, enter their information and download their favorite ringtone. However, later they discover that these so-called free ringtones are far from free. Many of these offers come with fine print that is often never read. It is only when the bill comes that people start to wonder what that fine print really said. Recently I received an offer for a free ringtone. It was from a company that has been offering free ringtones for quite awhile. When you get to their site you are asked to enter you cell phone number, choose your free ringtone and enter your zodiac sign. It looks like a great deal to most people. However, if you scroll to the bottom of the screen and read their terms and conditions you will soon realized it is not such a great deal after all. Once you submit you cell phone number to get your free ringtone you will be subscribed to their service. The cost of this service is $9.99 per month for the ringtones and $6.99 per month for their horoscope package. All in all, that free ringtone will end up costing you $16.98! Not such a great deal after all. This is not the only company running this kind of smoke screen offer. There are many more and some charge even higher monthly prices. One program I looked at charged $3.99 per week! Ringtones are a wonderful feature to have on you cell phone. They let you show your personality and allow you to customize your cell phone to fit you. However, be careful where you order them from and also be extremely diligent when ordering any free ringtones. Always be sure to read the terms and conditions so you understand what you are really ordering with that free ringtone. Many times it will end up costing you in the long run. Behavioral and Situational Job Interviews

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

By Michael Russell A behavioral interview is a style of interviewing wherein the job applicant is asked to give examples of situations he has personally been involved in where he demonstrated a particular trait or skill that the interviewer is interested in. A situational interview is a style wherein theoretical or hypothetical situations are given by the interviewer to assess the applicant’s behavior in such a situation. The main difference between behavioral and situational interview is that behavioral interviews focus on past experiences and behavior of the applicant, while situational interviews concentrate on how the applicant will react when confronted with a given situation. These two styles of interviewing are often used in conjunction with each other. These styles of interviewing job applicants are tailored to specific competencies required for specific job positions, thus specific situations must also be given as examples by the applicant. Vagueness must be avoided. The examples may be ordinary events in his life and not necessarily from previous work experience. These styles can be used to interview both experienced applicants and recent graduates. For either style, the interviewer needs to identify the required competencies for the job he wants to fill. He must then examine actual situations related to the job where these competencies (or lack thereof) played a critical part in its success (or failure). A set of questions can be developed and framed in such a way that canned responses may be avoided. A rating scale is also prepared after the job is analyzed and the competencies are identified. For the interviewee, behavioral and situational interviews require him to be well-prepared with specific examples of situations drawn from his past experiences that demonstrate his various competencies. He can examine and make a list of his assets and desirable qualities. He can also look at the job description for the position he will be interviewed for and try to come up with a list of competencies that may be needed for the job. For both of these lists, he can think of situations wherein he had an active role. He should think of problems he encountered in those situations and the steps he took to resolve those problems. He should practice telling his “stories”, which should be concise and to the point. The story should come out naturally and the applicant should be prepared for the interviewer to interrupt him at certain intervals to ask probing questions. Some common competencies interviewers look for in job applicants are skills in decision making, problem solving, communicating, negotiating, leading, working with a team and planning. He may also be asked questions related to working under pressure and, especially if he is applying for a sales position, persuasiveness. For any kind of interview, the applicant should do some research on the company he is applying to. The company website may have information that may be useful to know. If possible, the applicant should also get some information on who will be interviewing him. Most importantly, it is wise for the applicant to prepare for the different styles of interviews aside from behavioral and situational interview. Wedding Planning - Part VI

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Michael Russell In this sixth of a series of articles about planning your wedding we’re going to pick up with what to do starting 1 month before the big day. We are getting to the home stretch here. Just 30 days until your wedding. These are the things that should be taken care of at this time. The first thing is to choose wedding rings. This is something you and the groom need to do together unless he decides to go with a one ring ceremony. Discuss this with him first. If you feel strongly about him wearing a ring you should let him know about your feelings. Now is the time to mail invitations. One month prior should be plenty of time for your guests to respond as to whether or not they will be able to come. You’re also going to have to make room reservations for any out of town guests that you’re planning to have. You don’t want these people fending for themselves or sleeping on the streets. Make sure the accommodation is clean and comfortable. Check the wedding party clothes. Make sure that everything is just right. This will still give the fitters time to make any last minute corrections if needed. Get together with the band and make sure you have all the musical selections worked out including your first dance and any other special music that you want. You don’t want to micromanage this, as most wedding bands will play appropriate selections. Just make them aware of any special songs that you definitely want played. Make the reservations for the brides maids luncheon. Don’t skimp on this. They deserve to be fed well. Make sure all the last arrangements for the rehearsal dinner are in order. Discuss this with the guests and the caterer handling the dinner. You want everybody on the same page here. There is going to be a wedding shower that your maid of honor is going to throw for you around this time. Make sure you make yourself available during this month. Most likely they will try to make this a surprise. Most likely if your maid of honor or one of your friends starts acting strange on a given day you won’t be surprised. Fake it. They’ll love you for it. Make sure that you apply for your marriage license. Each state is different so you are going to want to get all the information that you can before you do this. The last thing you want is to make it to that day, not have a license and not be able to go through with the ceremony. Laws are very strict about these things. No license, no marriage. Of course you’re also going to need a blood test before you can get married. Make sure that this is taken care of as well. You probably want to schedule a trip to the doctor for you and the groom on the same day. In the next article in this series we’ll be going over what needs to be done 2 weeks before the big day. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Weddings ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Wedding-Planning—Part-VI&id=132176 how to get a house with bad credit three in 1 credit report and scores ordering credit reports directly from the credit bureaus grants for credit repair
