Behavioral and Situational Job Interviews

May 4th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Michael Russell A behavioral interview is a style of interviewing wherein the job applicant is asked to give examples of situations he has personally been involved in where he demonstrated a particular trait or skill that the interviewer is interested in. A situational interview is a style wherein theoretical or hypothetical situations are given by the interviewer to assess the applicant’s behavior in such a situation. The main difference between behavioral and situational interview is that behavioral interviews focus on past experiences and behavior of the applicant, while situational interviews concentrate on how the applicant will react when confronted with a given situation. These two styles of interviewing are often used in conjunction with each other. These styles of interviewing job applicants are tailored to specific competencies required for specific job positions, thus specific situations must also be given as examples by the applicant. Vagueness must be avoided. The examples may be ordinary events in his life and not necessarily from previous work experience. These styles can be used to interview both experienced applicants and recent graduates. For either style, the interviewer needs to identify the required competencies for the job he wants to fill. He must then examine actual situations related to the job where these competencies (or lack thereof) played a critical part in its success (or failure). A set of questions can be developed and framed in such a way that canned responses may be avoided. A rating scale is also prepared after the job is analyzed and the competencies are identified. For the interviewee, behavioral and situational interviews require him to be well-prepared with specific examples of situations drawn from his past experiences that demonstrate his various competencies. He can examine and make a list of his assets and desirable qualities. He can also look at the job description for the position he will be interviewed for and try to come up with a list of competencies that may be needed for the job. For both of these lists, he can think of situations wherein he had an active role. He should think of problems he encountered in those situations and the steps he took to resolve those problems. He should practice telling his “stories”, which should be concise and to the point. The story should come out naturally and the applicant should be prepared for the interviewer to interrupt him at certain intervals to ask probing questions. Some common competencies interviewers look for in job applicants are skills in decision making, problem solving, communicating, negotiating, leading, working with a team and planning. He may also be asked questions related to working under pressure and, especially if he is applying for a sales position, persuasiveness. For any kind of interview, the applicant should do some research on the company he is applying to. The company website may have information that may be useful to know. If possible, the applicant should also get some information on who will be interviewing him. Most importantly, it is wise for the applicant to prepare for the different styles of interviews aside from behavioral and situational interview. Wedding Planning - Part VI

May 1st, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Michael Russell In this sixth of a series of articles about planning your wedding we’re going to pick up with what to do starting 1 month before the big day. We are getting to the home stretch here. Just 30 days until your wedding. These are the things that should be taken care of at this time. The first thing is to choose wedding rings. This is something you and the groom need to do together unless he decides to go with a one ring ceremony. Discuss this with him first. If you feel strongly about him wearing a ring you should let him know about your feelings. Now is the time to mail invitations. One month prior should be plenty of time for your guests to respond as to whether or not they will be able to come. You’re also going to have to make room reservations for any out of town guests that you’re planning to have. You don’t want these people fending for themselves or sleeping on the streets. Make sure the accommodation is clean and comfortable. Check the wedding party clothes. Make sure that everything is just right. This will still give the fitters time to make any last minute corrections if needed. Get together with the band and make sure you have all the musical selections worked out including your first dance and any other special music that you want. You don’t want to micromanage this, as most wedding bands will play appropriate selections. Just make them aware of any special songs that you definitely want played. Make the reservations for the brides maids luncheon. Don’t skimp on this. They deserve to be fed well. Make sure all the last arrangements for the rehearsal dinner are in order. Discuss this with the guests and the caterer handling the dinner. You want everybody on the same page here. There is going to be a wedding shower that your maid of honor is going to throw for you around this time. Make sure you make yourself available during this month. Most likely they will try to make this a surprise. Most likely if your maid of honor or one of your friends starts acting strange on a given day you won’t be surprised. Fake it. They’ll love you for it. Make sure that you apply for your marriage license. Each state is different so you are going to want to get all the information that you can before you do this. The last thing you want is to make it to that day, not have a license and not be able to go through with the ceremony. Laws are very strict about these things. No license, no marriage. Of course you’re also going to need a blood test before you can get married. Make sure that this is taken care of as well. You probably want to schedule a trip to the doctor for you and the groom on the same day. In the next article in this series we’ll be going over what needs to be done 2 weeks before the big day. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Weddings ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Wedding-Planning—Part-VI&id=132176 how to get a house with bad credit three in 1 credit report and scores ordering credit reports directly from the credit bureaus grants for credit repair

Benefits of Mulch

April 28th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Khieng Chho Environmentalists are advocates for a clean and green environment. Their projects may start from the segregation of bio and non-bio degradable waste materials. Planting of trees in your backyard is also another. In your own simple wayyou can also be an environmentalist. Dare to make a difference Flowering plants, fruit-bearing trees, green meadowthese are all creations that need proper care. All of them add beauty to the surroundings. Now, your responsibility is to take care of the said creations. Plants are very important because aside from adding splendor to the environment, they can also be the major source of food for both human beings and animals. There are ways that are designed to sustain nourishment in a plants life. Aside from water and sunlight that are considered to be the basic needs of plants, natural components are also necessary for its growth. Mulch is one. Mulch refers to any material placed over the soil in your garden. It helps in keeping moisture, deter weeds and protect the soil from erosion. Mulch has been used by most of the farmers and gardeners in the maintenance of the plants. For busy people who still want to ensure the health of the plants, mulch is best to use. It comes from various sources. This natural component can either be purchased in a garden center or you can make your own by means of the shredding leaves, roots and other organic materials. It serves as an abundant fertilizer for your plants. Here are some of the benefits of mulch: It is environmental friendly. Rather than throwing the shred organic materials particularly the falling leaves coming from the tree, you can recycle it and create them into mulch. Through this, you are able to save money and preserve the environment. It is time-saving device. It does not require you to consume much time just to tilt the soil and spray your plants all the time. When you put mulch into the plants it will prevent the weeds from sprouting into the garden. Constant watering is not necessary. Mulch keeps the moisture of the soil so that you will not water the plants regularly. Mulch also helps in neutralizing the amount of heat transpiring in the plants. Plants are less susceptible to soil erosion. Mulch enriches the soil and it will prevent rain from washing away the soil. A thicker layer of mulch is mostly preferable. The only disadvantage about mulch is its unpleasant odor. You can always ignore it if you are really after the nourishment of the plants in your garden. How To Get A Guy To Fall In Love With You

April 26th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Tonja Weimer Do you feel like fate has singled you out to be alone the rest of your life? Would you like to meet a guy and fall madly in love? If you don’t want to be single forever, do you know how to get a guy to fall in love with you? When I was young it seemed simple to have lots of boys around. I thought they were all in love with me because it seemed they never wanted to go home. Now that I am older, I think I have a different picture of the situation. My Dad was a cowboy, he told great stories, and we had horses. Those boys might have been smiling and friendly, but I don’t think their visits were about me. They were in love with Dad. Getting a guy to fall in love with you is more complicated that owning a horse. What will help you is understanding how to develop your personal attraction and magnetism. When you do, it will be easy. But if you are stuck thinking love will never happen for you, you need the following: *Self assurance Confidence is magnetizing. This is how you get who you want. Confidence starts with knowing you can take care of yourself wherever you are. Whether you need social skills, a career path, new friends, financial planning, or counseling to handle your emotional issues, help is out there for you if you ask for it. *Trust Becoming a trust-worthy person starts with trusting yourself to do the right thing, no matter how difficult the situation. Do you say what you mean and mean what you say? Are your thoughts and words in alignment with your actions? The man you want will fall in love and stay in love if he can trust you. *Femininity Feminine women have great power. Men flock to them. True femininity has substance. An attractive woman cares about her spiritual center, her competency at what she does, and the quality of her friendships. She also cares about her appearance, takes care of her health, and stays fit from exercise. *Words of endearment Men like women who pay attention to them and pay them compliments. Sincere compliments will attract men to you like bears to honey. If you feel secure with a man, and have been dating him for a while, he will also like to hear terms of endearment like being called sweetie, sugar, darling, and baby. *Larger purpose Extremely attractive women know they are fulfilling a greater purpose and are serene about it. They have an inner-based spiritual center that is the foundation under everything they do. They have the kind of energy that calms people and everyone wants to be around them. Wherever they are, they make a contribution, just by their presence. *Fun If you have the qualities mentioned above, and you know how to laugh, play, and enjoy yourself wherever you go, you are irresistible. *Action If you want to fall in love and stay in love, you need to take the steps to make that happen. If you don’t know how to get on track to do that, get yourself a coach. When you do the above, you will know how to get a guy to fall in love with you. And you won’t even need a horse. Relationship Advice Gone Wild II

April 24th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Susan Russo How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. -Annie Dillard By an overwhelming response we are back to facing the cold hard truths of getting over someone we love. If you can handle the truth and you want to get over it sooner rather than later, read on. No one is saying that its easy, but its a lot easier than youre making it. The fact is; its inevitable. Youre going to have to get over it anyway, so you might as well take the quick and less painful route, as opposed to trudging down Heartbreak Lane. The first reality isits a choice. I know you may find that hard to believe but once you go through the stages of healing your broken heart, depending on how long you feel the pain, is actually your choice. Without further ado, lets get started with Advice Gone Wild II. Ill never love anyone like I loved him/her. Advice: What a loss. Why would you allow yourself to believe this? Wasnt there at least one other person in your past that you thought you would never get over? And, lo and behold, you got over them, didnt you? Dont set yourself up to feel bad. Sure, you loved them, but once you get out and begin to live a little them will be a thing of the past. I cant stop thinking of him/her. Advice: Oh yes you can. You cant think of two things at the same time so start to keep yourself as busy as possible. Every time you start to think of them, STOP YOURSELF and say, Its over and everyday Im getting stronger. You have to do something that is going to help yourself in letting go. Its a matter of time when you will let go, why not just do it right now? Who am I going to meet? Ill never meet anyone. Advice: You met him/her didnt you? There are about 6 billion, yes, thats billion, people in the world and you cant meet just one? Come on, of course youre going to meet someone. Quit lying to yourself. Its not a matter of whom you will meet; its a matter of when you will meet them. When fill your head with this kind of garbage, how do you expect to feel? Whats wrong with me that they didnt love me? Nothing! The fact is, sometimes things just dont work out the way we planned. All relationships take TWO people to make it or break it. If someone chooses to leave you, for whatever reason, you simply have to face reality and pick up the pieces of your life and move on. If someone isnt on the same page as you, if they have a different agenda, then the only thing wrong with you is if you continue to hold onto something thats dead and gone. How will I ever get over this? You will get over it the same way everyone else does; one step at a time. You will get over it when you continue to take the right steps and do the right things that will help you heal your broken heart. If you tell yourself that its too hard, or you will never get over it, guess what? Youre right. What you tell yourself about any given situation is exactly how you will experience it. Unless, you choose to stay stuck, you will be over it sooner than you thinkhang in there! So when youre feeling sorry for yourself and looking for the answers, look no further. You hold the key to either moving on with your life, by doing the right things or you can throw away the key and remain a prisoner forever. Its your choice. Keep yourself focused on where you want to go, not on where you were, and before you know it, you wont need any more advice. Your Dating Elevator Speech

April 22nd, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Toni Coleman Its Saturday night and you are out at yet another singles event. You felt some reluctance about signing up, but this one offered promise- a different crowd, nice venue and a convenient location. Two of your friends are meeting you, so at least the evening should not be a complete bust. It seems that you have done all the right things in order to maximize your opportunity to meet people, and always put a lot of effort into looking your best- so why do your efforts usually leave your feeling like a wallflower, with no prospects on the horizon. What are you doing/not doing? There are many singles out there, looking for love. In their quest to meet compatible people- they often invest a great deal of time and money on their appearance and on finding and utilizing the resources available to help and enhance their search. These include everything from clothing, transportation and costs for their personal ad to self-help books, matchmakers and fees that cover the many singles events they attend. Many of these are necessary expenses that will increase ones probability of meeting Mr./Ms Right - however, an important aspect may be getting overlooked. First impressions are received through our two primary senses- visual and auditory- yet how we look often gets all the attention as folks forget about the importance of what and how they relate and communicate about themselves. The missing piece is the dating elevator speech. You are probably familiar with this concept as an elevator speech is a networking tool used in a professional context by those who have placed an importance on having an interesting and succinct way to describe their chosen career - and it must be brief enough to articulate in the time it takes to share an elevator ride with the listener. The world of dating often places singles in situations that require they be able to get and hold that interesting someones attention - yet only have two minutes or so to accomplish this before the moment (opportunity) has passed. You know, that cute guy or girl in front of you at the grocery store, riding on the metro, ordering a drink next to you at the bar, standing alone at the singles event, etc. Often you struggle to come up with something to say that comfortably gets their attention- but do you know how to showcase your positive traits and do it briefly? It may be easier than you think. Begin by coming up with a list of your three most unique and positive characteristics. Avoid using just adjectives here. An example could be that you are a funny guy BECAUSE you are quick with the comebacks and known by your friends as the one who is always sure to offer comic relief in any tough situation. In other words, come up with an example for each trait you list- from funny, well educated and never boring to risk-taker, world traveler, certified scuba diver, pilot, etc. The key here is to heighten your own awareness of the traits you think most speak to who you are and what the other person should know about you. Once you have done this, you need to package it in a way that allows you to SHOW these traits to someone- not just recite them. Woman sees cute guy standing alone at singles event, as room is quickly filling up. She has given careful thought to her dating elevator speech and with a clear awareness of what she wants to convey, approaches him. She walks over with confidence and an open and inviting manner, as she looks him in the eye and displays a warm smile. She uses her great sense of humor by making a tasteful joke about the place they are standing in, the food, the nights planned events, etc. Her humor is funny, generic, not self-deprecating and elicits a smile back from him, as he feels more at ease. He asks her the standard questions- her name, where she lives/works, how she know about the event, etc. After each, she gives a very brief, but interesting response and poses the same or similar question to him. He likes her smile, sees her sense of humor, finds her work and passions (1 or 2) interesting, and gets the sense that she is bright, confident and a good listener. How did she do this in a couple of minutes? She showed him her sense of humor; she projected an air of confidence and interest in him- and an ability to listen deeply and well. She offered brief and interesting highlights about her career and interests - things he could relate to or that wetted his appetite and left him wanting to know more. In other words, she delivered her dating elevator speech effectively- good enough to help her stand out in the sea of singles and lead to an exchange of numbers/emails and a tentative plan to get together again. Botox Injections

April 21st, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Todd Going Botulin toxin is widely known and sold under the name Botox. It is a very strong neurotoxin that is widely used in many areas of modern medicine. Currently Botox injections are the most popular form of non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the United States today. It was a man named Alan Scott, who first applied tiny doses of the toxin to patients who had crossed eyes and uncontrollable blinking. A company called Allergan, Inc. then helped Scott gain regulatory approval to market his discovery as a drug. In 1988 Allergan bought the drug and in 1989 it received approval by the FDA. The drug was then named Botox. Cosmetic benefits of Botox were soon noticed after the frown lines between eyebrows appeared to soften following treatment for eye muscle problems. This led to clinical trials and FDA approval of the drug in April 2002. Today Botox treatment is growing in record numbers as it is finding enormous new potential in several therapeutic areas including treating migraine headaches, eyelid muscle contraction and axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Other uses of Botox include urinary incontinence, nasal fissure, spastic disorders, stroke, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy. Currently, the most popular use of Botox has been used cosmetically to reduce the wrinkles around the eyes. This non-surgical procedure treats areas of the eye commonly referred to as crows feet and creases on the forehead through an injection with a tiny needle. Depending on where it is injected side effects may include a headache, droopy eyelids and nausea. Temporary bruising around the injection area is also common. Don’t Miss the Signs on Your Weight Control Trail

April 16th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Bentley Thompson Parents of low birth weight children show “emotional confusion” during the first weeks of parenting. However, as time progresses, this negative emotion turns to a joyful experience. And rightly so, but As it is with underweight babies, so it is with overweight kids and adults… we soon grow accustomed to our body fat. We ignore all the warning signs until we arrive at diabetes, heart problems, or other health conditions. It seems we are always ignoring the signs on our weight control trail. Even though we have seen what this behavior has done to fellow drivers on the same road, human nature, it seems, keeps most of us spell bound to killing ourselves. So what are some of these weight control signs that you may be ignoring? The You Turn Sign What do you do when you discover you are going the wrong way down the highway? You turn around and head for the opposite direction. So why dont we turn around when we find ourselves going towards that refrigerator for another serving of ice cream late at night? Instead we shove the image of the consequence of our action away on the shelf of denial. We say, Another scoop of ice cream wont hurt. It wont? So we think. Theres nothing wrong with eating ice cream, per se, but eating high calorie foods just before you go to sleep is not a lean idea. Often becomes a habit, and we do this every night we are headed down the fat path. We need to take the You turn along the road to the refrigerator. Weight Control Exit Sign Sometimes its not enough to just turn around. You do that when it is a matter of doing a good thing at the wrong time or in the wrong way like eating ice cream late at night before you go to bed. What about when the behavior is totally bad for your health? There are several examples here. Like when you are on the wrong diet? I read that 80% of Americans dont eat enough fruit and vegetables, but they consume more than enough fats, especially saturated fats. And snacking One dietician reported that she had never seen an obese person who did not skip breakfast and snack at nights. Does skipping breakfast contribute to poor weight control? You bet it is. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. People who regularly miss breakfast tend to have a greater urge to snack. If your diet is loaded with fat, if you snack often, or if you skip breakfast habitually you could be on the road to obesity or other lifestyle condition. You need to take the exit sign seriously. Winding Road to Weight Loss Have you ever been on a winding mountain road? The scenery may be good. It may be leading to positions where you get breath-taking views of the scenery below. However, as a driver you know it can be difficult maneuvering and meandering your way on a winding road. For some people the process of weight loss is like being on a winding road. Its exhilarating at first. They quickly lose a few pounds and what they see initially in the mirror is encouraging. Many of the popular weight loss programs make you lose both fat and muscle. Often this is due to a diet that is not practical for the long term. When they revert to their regular diet they soon regain the weight they had before; not the muscle, but the fat. This makes weight loss or weight control seem like a roller coaster ride on a winding road. Weight Control Stop Sign Many of the signs on the roads throughout your neighborhood are just informational. They provide information needed for you drive intelligently. Signs such as, Winding Road, U Turn Permitted, or Steep Slope are examples. There are a few commands on the weight loss trail that are imperatives. They command action. The Stop Sign is an example. How many of us obey these? There is a common sense statement that says, If you keep on doing what you’re doing, you will continue to get what you’re getting. In most cases, overweight and obesity are results of behavior. This is evident in the large numbers of children who are obese and who are developing Type 2 diabetes a disease once known only in adults. Its ironic that todays modern lifestyle, amid the unprecedented volume of health knowledge and information, is so conducive to developing obesity and the associated health problems. What are some of the practices that we need to stop? Here are a few bad practices that contribute to overweight and obesity that we need to stop. Stop eating too much processed foods. Use more foods in their natural or as grown state. These are usually higher in fiber content and lower in calories.Stop skipping breakfast. Eat three meals per day at regular times. Stop eating late at nights. Nutrition experts have suggested that we should eat our last meal at least 4 hours before bed time.Eating more slowly, while taking the time to enjoy our food has some benefits for weight control. This is a benefit many people miss out on in todays fast paced society.Stop the snacking throughout the day. Drink water between meals instead of juice or sodas.Stop the sedentary spell. Have daily exercise 30 to 60 minutes walk each day will make anyone lose weight and control it. Americans are said to be the fattest people on the planet. Thats not a compliment. Why does the country that puts out so many health publications about weight control have an ever growing population of obese folk? The dangerous news is that, excess weight lays the foundation for nearly every degenerative disease except osteoporosis. Further, for every extra pound of fat tissue we put on we shorten our lifespan by one month. Why do we keep blaming genetics? We just need to obey the signs. Stop, turn around, and get off the obesity trail. References: Eriksson, Birgitta S. (2005). The Scentsational History of Making Perfume at Home

April 14th, 2008 by deliafarhan

By Sheila Hensen Products that improve the feel of skin and the scent of the body have been exceedingly valued in every culture. It used to be that people mixed their own concoctions using home techniques, crafting their own aromatherapy products in rooms designed for this use, in what was called as the still room where flowers and herbs were steeped in hot water to extract its scents. Depending on the fashion of the moment, people have applied perfume, oils and salves on their bodies for the last thousands of years. The early Egyptians used perfumes as pre love making preparations, and of course in their religious rituals as well. Most popular then were myrrh, frankincense, rose, and peppermint. These were placed in hot oil until a perfumed salve was formed. The salve was then massaged into the skin. We have actually come full circle, because today, many of us are seeking high quality aromatherapy products that were in popular use in bygone eras. In the 17th century, Paris turned into the most important center of perfume making. This was the time that Louis XV demanded distinct fragrances each day for his apartments. Because of this, the court of Louise XV was named the perfumed court. He loved perfumes so much that he and his entire court applied them not only to their skin, but to their clothing, and even furniture. Altering tastes and the progress of modern chemistry laid the groundwork for the perfumes we have today. Where before, scents were composed of just a single fragrance such as rose, lilac, peppermint, soon, bouquet scents were introduced where more than one scent was involved. Soon, some scents did not even resemble flowers. This development transformed the perfume industry. Paris became the center of the world of designer perfume. There was Guerlain, Lubin, Roger and Gallet, and in 1921, Chanel launched their own perfume, named Chanel No. 5, and soon, other perfume houses cropped up such as Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, and Jacques Faith. Lately, even major brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Lacoste have started sporting their own perfumes with celebrity endorsers to match. Up till this time, it was believed that you would need major financing to have a perfume custom made for you, or to develop your own line. The essential oils cost millions to produce and no suppliers would even talk to you if you were a mom and pop sort of vendor. The Internet has changed all that. With the emergence of the online world came online vendors, many of who would buy these materials in bulk, repackage them, and resell them to buyers who would need just a small amount for craft purposes. Need lavender essential oil? You dont need a supplier in France. A quick search and click will give you a host of choices for vendors, many of them willing to deliver right to your doorstep. Dont know what a fixative is? Just type it in your search engine and chances are, aside from suppliers, youll also come across a how-to article on perfume making at home. This online phenomena has changed the way many people do business, especially home perfume making, which was virtually unheard of before. Now, perfume making at home has steadily risen as an industry, and at this rate, it seems that the boom is likely to progress well into the future.
